Ninja vs Spartan – are you kidding me?!

September 3rd, 2009
Ninja should win

Ninja should win

The other night on Spike tv, they showed an expert(?) analysis for a fight between a ninja and a Spartan warrior.

They claim that the Spartan would win a fight to the deal 65% of the time.

This is stupid, since ninja’s use poison and would never tolerate a face to face fight.

When was the last time you saw a rogue attack a tank head on. That’s just foolish.

10.6 Snow Leopard is out. Not just a hunter’s pet

August 29th, 2009

Well Everybody and their uncle grabbed a copy of 10.6 yesterday. I’m installing it now.

Likes: I didn’t have to reboot to reinstall.

Dislikes: Apple hasn’t learned from all their developers about using the 45 minutes of install time to describe new features.

More news as it develops.

11:09 pm update

After install and reboot I got a desktop with no perceptible activity. I waited it out and all is fine.

Like: Hard drive has 10Gig of free space. Yeah

Like: New finder menu icons: sexy

I’d swear WOW looks just a little prettier and runs a bit smoother. Anyone else?

You can drive…

August 9th, 2009
Need a ride

Need a ride?

Now that WOW 3.2 is out level 20 characters can buy mounts. This looks like an effort by Blizzard to speed up the level grind at mid range 20-40. Getting to a quest destinations faster can really speed things along. The low level mounts cost 4 gold and move you 60% faster than walking. You will also need Apprentice Riding skill.

If you use carbonite, the quest coloring on the maps really speeds things up. Also the 3.2 update makes the quest log two panes for easier browsing . Nice.

Patch 3.2.0 is out!

August 5th, 2009

2.3.0 has hit the servers

Here are some highlights

Construction of the Crusaders’ Coliseum is complete. New raid normal and Heroic modes for the Crusaders’ Coliseum can be toggled using the Dungeon Difficulty setting. This applies to 10 and 25-player versions. 10-player (normal), 25-player (normal), 10-player (Heroic) and 25-player (Heroic) all share separate raid lockout timers.

This should keep level 80 chars busy for a while.

Mounts

  • The cast time for summoning any ground mount is now 1.5 seconds, down from 3 seconds.
  • Apprentice Riding (Skill 75): Can now be learned at level 20 for 4 gold. Mail will be sent to players who reach level 20 directing them to the riding trainer.
  • Journeyman Riding (Skill 150): Can now be learned at level 40 for 50 gold. Mail will be sent to players who reach level 40 directing them back to the riding trainer.
  • Expert Riding (Skill 225): Can now be learned at level 60 for 600 gold from trainers in Honor Hold or Thrallmar. Faction discounts now apply (Honor Hold for Alliance; Thrallmar for Horde). Flight speed at this skill level has been increased to 150% of run speed, up from 60%.
  • Artisan Riding (Skill 300): Faction discounts now apply (Honor Hold or Valiance Expedition for Alliance; Thrallmar or Warsong Offensive for Horde).
  • In order to further equalize the number of purchasable mounts available to each race, a new 60% speed ground mount has been added for night elves, and a new 100% speed ground mount has been added for the undead.
  • Flying over Dalaran and Wintergrasp is now possible so long as players keep a healthy distance above the ground.

Deathnights knights have been nerfed.

Druids get some love. Nice bufs for moonkin.

Hunters are being encouraged to mix up their traps and use them more often.

Mages get their bread and butter spells for less mana.

Paladins get the rug pulled out from under them. hmm.

Priest have not much going on.

Rogues get to use axes. big woop.

Shaman get lots if goodies.

Warlocks get buffed.

Warriors get buffed.

  • Wolvar and Gorloc orphans have arrived in Dalaran and need your help! Players can find out more by visiting the Eventide District (completing the quests being offered for this event will not count toward any Children’s Week achievements). Players have a limited amount of time to care for these orphans before they take their leave. They will then return again for the regularly-scheduled Children’s Week next year.
  • Portal areas in all major cities now offer a portal to the Blasted Lands near the Dark Portal.
  • Once crossing through the Dark Portal, players can access a flight path directly from the Stair of Destiny to Shattrath.
  • A new zeppelin docking ramp has been added to Thunder Bluff allowing Horde players easier transport to and from Orgrimmar.
  • The local Postal Service has grown tired of walking so far each day to collect mail and has decided to install a large number of new mailboxes in Stormwind, Undercity, Darnassus and Orgrimmar.
  • Mathiel in Darnassus has finally earned himself enough money from your repair bills that he was able to buy himself an anvil.

New druid art for Cat Form and Bear Form has been added. There are now five unique color schemes for each form and faction. Changing hair color (night elves) or skin tone (tauren) via the barbershop will change the look of one’s cat and bear forms. YEAH!

25 SIGNS YOU HAVE GROWN UP

August 5th, 2009

Sigh. It’s soo true.

1. Your house plants are alive, and you can’t smoke any of them.
2. Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.
3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge.
4. 6:00 AM is when you get up, not when you go to bed.
5. You hear your favorite song in an elevator.
6. You watch the Weather Channel.
7. Your friends marry and divorce instead of “hook up” and “break up.”
8. You go from 130 days of vacation time to 14.
9. Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as “dressed up.”
10. You’re the one calling the police because those %&@# kids next door won’t turn down the stereo.
11. Older relatives feel comfortable telling sex jokes around you.
12. You don’t know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.
13. Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up.
14. You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonald’s leftovers.
15. Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.
16. You take naps.
17. Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of one.
18. Eating a basket of chicken wings at 3 AM would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach.
19. You go to the drug store for ibuprofen and antacid, not condoms and pregnancy tests.
20. A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer “pretty good shit.”
21. You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.
22. “I just can’t drink the way I used to” replaces “I’m never going to drink that much again.”
23. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.
24. You drink at home to save money before going to a bar.
25. When you find out your friend is pregnant you congratulate them instead of asking “Oh shit what the hell happened?”
BONUS:
26: You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that doesn’t apply to you and can’t find one to save your sorry old ass.

Wait! I don’t watch the Weather Channel. Yeah!

Dang!

panicbutton - dead hard driveRecently I was working on the computer and I got a warning about a device being disconnected. I thought I’d bumped a USB device. Last night I went to load my favorite MMO and holly @#$@ my Firewire drive wasn’t mounting. This means no WOW on my desktop computer. I hope its only my cable, but I doubt it. sigh.

No sleep

August 3rd, 2009

Last night my youngest daughter (7 months) stayed up most of the night. I stayed up with her. Sooooo tired.

Now I have both girls at Chich-fil-a. Foods not too bad. I guess that’s why it’s so popular :}

Rogue is pretty fun

August 2nd, 2009

Need helpMy rogue is a level 27 Gnome named Torkywingnut. :)

I recently started the Ravenholdt quest line. It started off being intriguing and mysterious. Then I read the wiki article and my heart sank. Despite being a neat intro to the idea of a thieves guild, the wiki article makes is sound pretty half-baked with no real reward (unless you want the Insane in the Membrane achievement).

I’m disappointed that Blizzard would put something like this in and abandon it. Which makes me think the old world needs some love.

I realize that Blizzard needs to build new areas to sell expansions. I’ve also heard rumblings that they are losing subscribers. Weekends don’t feel as crowded to me. Below is a moderately thoughtful list of changes to revitalize the old world and bring players back.

1. Make travel from Northrend and Outland easier. How about more portals from the old world?

2. Put some new quests in the old world – new characters still start there

3. Let max level players earn a new kind of emblem for mentoring lower level chars through the old world – let them earn legacy items that their alts can use :)

4. Pill in gaps in the old world so flying mounts could be used. Put some level 65+ quests in the new high altitude area. Cloud Castles and big giants.
