Lies and More Lies. Or possible hunter talents??

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

As someone who is not a doctor, I would prescribe that you take this with a grain of salt…

Another set of possible hunter talentsWe’re getting close to the end of these Burning Crusade talent rumors — as all sources are predicting official hunter talents out soon. However, they’re not out yet, and that means just one thing: more hunter talent rumors! I am tempted to put some faith in this set of rumors, which come from poster Anders on the Curse Gaming forums, as we’ve gotten interesting information from him before that’s later proven accurate. The talents are interesting and some rather odd (threat reduction? increased RAP by 25% of intellect), but with some of the talents I’ve seen previewed thus far for other classes, these would not surprise me. And if they’re wrong? Well, we’ll see in the next few days. Read on for the full text of the possible talents.

Beast Mastery

  • Tier 6 — Animal Handler — Increases your speed while mounted by 4% and your pet’s chance to hit by 2%. The mounted movement speed increase does not stack with other effects. (8/4%)
  • Tier 7 — Ferocious Inspiration — When your pet scores a critical hit, all party members have all damage increased by 1% for 10 sec. (2/3%)
  • Tier 7 — Catlike Reflexes — Increases your chance to dodge and your pet’s chance to dodge by an additional 2%. (4/6%)
  • Tier 8 — Serpent’s Swiftness — Increases ranged combat attack speed by 4% and your pet’s melee attack speed by 4%. (8+8/12+12/16+16/20+20%)

Survival

  • Tier 4 — Resourcefulness — Reduces the mana cost of all traps and melee abilities by 20% and reduces the cooldown of all traps by 2 sec. ( 40%+4sec/60%+6sec)
  • Tier 6 — Survival Instincts — Reduces all damage taken by 2%. (4%)

  • Level 64 — Steady Shot — A steady shot that causes RAP*0.3+100 damage. Causes an additional 175 against Dazed targets.
  • Level 68 — Snake Trap — Place a trap that will release several venomous snakes to attack the first enemy to approach. The snakes will die after 15 sec. Trap will exist for 60 sec. Only one trap can be active at a time.

File under possible BS. This was posted on the curse-gaming.com forums. There is no reason to believe this is real, but it looks interesting. If you believe it, Then BC will display more details on the character sheet about your melee, ranged, spell and defense skills. (see pic above).

These details will be accessed via a drop down. There are some interesting new terms like ‘Weapon Skill,’ ‘Hit Rating,’ ‘Resilience,’ and ‘Penetration.’ I’m sure there are stat freaks out there who will die for this info – me, not too impressed.

The post also touches briefly on the new looking for group feature that is supposed to make it easier to match up with other players without all the channel spam. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see 🙂

Burning Crusade Forums tidbits

More stolen notes about the Arena and goodies that we’ve already covered 🙂

Burning Crusade Forums tidbits

A few tidbits about changes in the expansion have popped up in the forums…

  • Tseric says that certain Crowd Control abilities (of course no specifics yet) will be downgraded, if not disabled in Arena PVP. Spells like Polymorph or Sleep may have a 15-20 second duration when used in PVE, but only a 5-10 second duration in Arena PVP. This is meant to ‘prevent extended removal [of players] from combat.’
  • On a question about how PVP ranks will show in BC, Drysc says there will be a title menu in the UI, and that players will be able to choose up to their highest rank to display. He also says there will be more titles for Arena PVP, as well as other titles through ‘various other means.’ World PVP? PVE titles? Last names? Your guess is as good as ours.
  • We’ve covered mount changes in 1.12.1 pretty extensively but in case you still have questions, Hortus has all the answers you need.
  • A player asks if flying mounts will make players immune to attacks, but Neth says they haven’t decided for sure yet. This was the first concern that came to mind when I saw the Druids’ new flying form– will Druids have an instant escape plan?
  • Considering all the classes seem to be getting pets in the expansion, Eskar has an idea for what to give rogues.
  • And can’t remember where I heard this rumor (I’m thinking it was one of our esteemed commenters?), but rumor (only rumor!) has it Blizzard has dropped the expansion price the game’s price from $39.99 to $19.99** (updated– see below). If that’s true, it pretty much ensures that World of Warcraft will move from seven million players to something literally engulfing the known universe, thus creating some sort of new, superuniverse in which multidimensional beings shout jokes about Chuck Norris and Steve Irwin at each other while other beings yell at them to ‘stop spamming LFG.’

Exciting stuff! Can’t wait for the expansion.. whenever it is released,

Update: Our commenters, God bless ’em, have confirmed the price drop, kind of. Blizzard will be dropping the original game to the price of $19.99– the expansion will be $39.99. But that still means the game will be cheaper than ever to play, which means we’re probably due for all that multidimensional universe stuff. Plan 2007 accordingly.

BC Honor system – much debate over few details

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Burning Crusade Expansion

There was much debate recently on the European forums about the new Honor system for Burning Crusade. The key concept is that all current honor will get wiped and a new point system will be implemented. It looks like you spend points on goodies.

Key concerns are that people will lose their high ranking gear (although I’ve seen no evidence to suggest this), and that titles will be chucked. When they do the honor wipe, you get to keep your current rank/title, but it will not reflect actual honor points.

If I read this right, it sounds very much like officers will need to keep the PVP grind going until BC hits to keep their titles. Sigh. The best I ever reached was Corporal.

ThinkPad explodes at LAX, ignites bomb scare

ThinkPad explodes at LAX, ignites bomb scare: “

Filed under:

In a time when you’re not even allowed to say the word ‘bomb’ in an airport (hey, it’s for good reason), it’s got to be like, really freaking embarrassing to have to run up the jetway at full speed, shoving other passengers out of the way as your flaming laptop explodes on the ground. (Sound familiar?) According to an eyewitness report on the Awful Forums, passersby stared aghast or fled crying terrorist, the ThinkPad (which was quoted to be an IBM, not a Lenovo) apparently had a number of death throes as the fire went through various phases, until eventually a United employee busted out the fire extinguisher and laid the laptop to rest. Apparently the machine’s owner already checked its battery against the recalls and it was not listed — and why would it be? IBM and Lenovo aren’t flagged for bad batteries — yet. (Sony, we’re looking your direction.) But the coup de grâce at LAX: onlookers apparently mumbling that ‘too many viruses on your computer’ can lead to this horrendous fate. How true, indeed.

[Thanks, Peter]

Mount changes in 1.12.1

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Go get your epic mount now! Get the gold somehow. Given the very low version number for this tip, it could be out as early as Tuesday.

Mount changes in 1.12.1: “

Filed under:

Hot off the test realm forums comes a big change to mounts and the way we ride them:

Mounts now require only one, shared riding skill (blue mounts require level 75, epic mounts, level 150). Also costs of learning this skill are now significally increased. Previously, cost of learning riding skill was 20 gold for each kind of mount, without any discount. Now it will be 90 gold for level 75 and 900 for level 150. Level 150 of riding skills is required for epic mounts and will most probably include PvP mounts and all mounts that drop in instances (Tiger, Raptor, Baron mount, bug mount and maybe paladin and warlock mount too). For now I can confirm that it is required to ride Stormpike Battle Charger, rest of mounts require confirmation.

In addition to the change of riding skills, the costs of Blue and Epic faction mounts has been significally decreased. Now blue mounts costs 10 gold and epic mounts costs 100 gold.

As you can see from this screenshot we took on the European PTR, you’ll need exalted to buy a mount (as you do currently), but the items have become bind-on-pickup. We can’t tell just by playing on the PTR exactly what will happen to our existing riding skills and mounts, so here’s hoping we find out more about this change soon.
